Official Projection Predicts that Car Volume In Our Area will More Than Double Because of the East West Connector

As part of planning the East West Connector, the Alameda County Transportation Commission (ACTC) conducted a traffic projection study.  The study predicts expected traffic volumes in cars per hour for the year 2035.  Two scenarios were studied, one if the EWC does not get built and one if the EWC does get built.  Both scenarios try to take into consideration how the construction of the EWC influences the size and location of future housing developments.  The full report can be found here.

Below we show predicted cars per hour for both the morning and evening commute for 15 locations of interest.  The devastating effect on our area is immediately apparent and completely negates the claim that the EWC relieves congestion.  To truly understand how horrific the EWC would be for our area, one only needs to consider the combined volume on Decoto Rd (4) near Missions Blvd and Segment C of the new EWC (13).  That combined number amounts to 6,380 cars per hour during the morning commute.  If the EWC does not get built, the study projects a far less 2,680 cars every hour.  So ACTC itself predicts that the EWC will lead to a mind boggling 138% increase in car volume crawling through our communities.  Yes, that is right: ACTC predicts that car volume in our neighborhoods will be more than twice as high than if the EWC never gets built.
